Welcome back to another edition of Shark Bytes presented by Bimini Shark Lab!
Today, Allie takes us on a snorkeling expedition to find some Caribbean Reef Sharks!
Caribbean reef sharks are typical reef predators. They are mostly found on coral and rocky reefs in the Caribbean, but also in the Gulf of Mexico and as far south as southern Brazil. These sharks are gray in color with darker coloration on the underside tips of their pectoral, pelvic, and anal fins. They can grow up to a maximum length of three meters. Unusual for reef sharks, they have a unique behavior where they are capable of lying motionless on the seafloor. They can often be seen resting like this in caves.
Tune in next week for another edition of Shark Bytes!
